If you want to host the best grill-out in town, here are some BBQ and grill tips for the aspiring cookout king.

 

Be careful of raw meat: This is cooking 101, but the warning still stands. Any time you’re handling raw meat, be careful. Wash your hands and don’t reuse the same plate.

Light the grill in advance: If you’re using charcoal, light the grill 30 minutes ahead of time. If you’re using lighter fuel, let the flames die down to avoid that fuel taste seeping into the food.

Keep a spray bottle on hand: For those out-of-control flames.

Marinate the chicken: Try marinating the chicken overnight with oil or butter or some other kind of marinade for a juicier, more flavorful dish.

Pick fatty steak: This may seem unappetizing, but as you cook, the fat melts and makes the steak more tender.

Use tongs: Puncturing the meat with a fork can dry it out, so use tongs or a spatula instead.

Cook burgers to well-done: Ground beef contains more bacteria than other types of meat, so make sure you cook hamburgers thoroughly.

Don’t be afraid to experiment: Tired of plain ol’ BBQ sauce? Experiment with different flavors, seasonings, herbs, and textures.
